I was reading my brother's blog about he and his wife's experience on that day 8 years ago, and I thought I'd share mine (great idea guys!).
I was in Russia at the time teaching English to school children. It was night time and I was in my room at my host family's home. Suddenly, I had my host mother knocking on my door and gesturing me into the front room to see the t.v. (I didn't really speak Russian, and they didn't really speak English). I walk in the front room to see the first tower hit was smoking, but I couldn't understand what was going on because it was a Russian news channel. So, my host family let me change channels to the BBC to understand what was going on, and wouldn't you know the picture was out so all I could do was LISTEN to the broadcast, which was very confusing. They were making it seem like it was a bomb and not an airplane. So we were switching back and forth between the two channels so we could see/hear what was going on. It wasn't until the second plane flew into the other tower that I finally realized what was going on! Then the second tower fell and we ALL started crying together. My mom called during all of this and I just about lost it!!!! I was so worried about everyone back home, and my mom was trying t convince me that I needed to get on an AIRPLANE and come home...yeah right! The next few days were really weird. We were told to "lay low", but the people of Russia were so kind and compassionate about the whole experience. It really did affect the whole world.
So, feel free to share your own experiences on that day, I'd be really interested in hearing everyone's stories. It's a day we'll never forget!

Daleen, thank-you for sharing your story. I was sleeping and my mom woke me up frantically. All I remember thinking was that the world was ending or something like that. Crate and Barrel called and told me not to come into work. My boyfriend (now husband) worked at Nordstrom and was told to come into work, because they wanted people to be able to come down to the store and talk about their feelings while listening to the guy playing the babygrand piano. I remember being glued to the internet and tv all day until Dan got off of work...then we were both glued to the tv and internet.
I remember it was before school that I found out what happened. I watched t.v. all morning until I had to leave then we watched it as much as possible at school. I remember thinking we can't turn off the t.v. what if something else happens, we won't know about it. I also remember crying a lot for the families who were involved directly.
